Arsenal Actively Exploring January Transfer Options, Says Arteta

Arsenal are actively assessing the January transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad amid a growing injury list, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

Speaking after recent league action, Arteta confirmed the club is closely monitoring potential signings as they manage fitness concerns across multiple positions. Arsenal invested heavily in the summer, spending around £250 million on eight new players in an effort to build depth and remain competitive across domestic and European competitions.

Despite that investment, injuries have again played a major role in shaping the season. Last year, Arsenal’s title challenge was disrupted by key absences, including defender Gabriel Magalhaes late in the campaign, while midfielders were forced into unfamiliar attacking roles as the club finished second in the Premier League and exited the Champions League at the semi final stage.

This season has followed a similar pattern. Several attacking players, including Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, have missed time through injury. More recently, defensive issues have added to Arteta’s concerns.

Against Brighton at the weekend, Declan Rice was deployed at right back after Jurrien Timber was ruled out and Riccardo Calafiori suffered a problem during the warm up. Although Gabriel returned in the 2 to 1 win, uncertainty remains around the recovery timelines of Timber, Calafiori and Cristhian Mosquera.

Arteta said the club must stay alert and prepared. He stressed that Arsenal are carefully evaluating the situation while acknowledging that turning interest into actual signings depends on multiple factors.

With Arsenal sitting two points clear at the top of the table, any January additions would likely focus on maintaining momentum and protecting the squad from further disruption as the season intensifies.
