Eight more arrests made in London counter terrorism probe linked to suspected arson plot

Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London have made eight further arrests as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of incidents including suspected arson attacks across London. The arrests, carried out over the past two days, form part of a wider operation examining a potential conspiracy to commit arson. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is being treated with urgency due to concerns that a venue connected to the Jewish community may have been a possible target, although no specific location has been confirmed.
Seven of the arrests are linked directly to the alleged conspiracy, with multiple suspects detained across different locations. Three men aged in their mid twenties were arrested in Harpenden late on Sunday evening before later being released on bail. Additional arrests followed on Monday, including a 25 year old man in Stevenage and three more individuals detained near Birmingham. Those taken into custody have been transported to London for questioning as investigators continue to gather evidence and establish the full scope of the suspected plot.
A separate but connected development saw a 39 year old man arrested in Ealing under terrorism legislation in relation to an earlier incident in Kensington Gardens. The arrest followed the discovery of containers holding a non hazardous substance in the park, prompting further inquiries by counter terrorism officers. Police confirmed that searches remain ongoing at a property in east London as part of efforts to determine whether there are links between the various incidents under investigation.
The broader inquiry has expanded significantly in recent weeks, with authorities confirming that a total of 23 individuals have now been arrested since an earlier incident involving damage to emergency vehicles in Golders Green. Several suspects have already been charged with offences related to arson, while others remain under investigation. The scale of the operation reflects growing concern among security services about coordinated activity targeting specific locations within the capital.
Police have not released full details of the alleged motives but have emphasised that investigations are continuing at pace, with officers working to identify any further risks to public safety. The developments come amid heightened vigilance around community security in London, particularly in relation to places of worship and public spaces. Authorities are expected to maintain a visible presence while inquiries continue, as efforts focus on preventing further incidents and ensuring reassurance for affected communities.
