Two officers from the Metropolitan Police have been charged in connection with a fatal crash that killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child in London. The incident, which occurred in October 2024, involved an unmarked police vehicle and has since been the subject of a detailed investigation.

Chris Johnson has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, while former officer Danny Tomkins faces a charge of dangerous driving. The case follows findings from the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which examined the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The crash took place on the A20 near Kidbrooke Park in south east London, where the 38 year old driver was critically injured. Her unborn child died at the scene, and she later died in hospital, making the case particularly tragic and sensitive.

Authorities have confirmed that both men are scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where the legal process will begin. The charges mark a significant development in the investigation, which has been closely monitored due to the involvement of law enforcement personnel.

The case raises broader questions about police driving standards and accountability, especially in situations involving unmarked vehicles. As proceedings move forward, attention will remain on the judicial process and the outcome of the case.
