Police have arrested a suspect following an attack that left a male student injured at Reading College on Thursday afternoon. Officers from Thames Valley Police confirmed that the student was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident, which took place on campus grounds during class hours. The injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

Emergency services were called shortly after midday following reports of a violent altercation involving several individuals near one of the main college buildings. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital. Police quickly cordoned off part of the campus while forensic teams examined the area for evidence and reviewed security footage.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the age of the suspect but confirmed that one person was arrested later in the afternoon on suspicion of assault. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. Officers are working to determine the motive for the attack and whether it was linked to any previous disputes among students.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said the situation was now under control and there was no ongoing threat to students or staff. “We responded swiftly to reports of an assault at Reading College and have made an arrest in connection with the incident,” the spokesperson said. “We are supporting the victim and his family and continue to work closely with the college to ensure the safety of everyone on site.”

The college released a statement expressing concern for the injured student and reassuring parents that security measures were being reinforced. “We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with the student who was hurt,” the statement read. “The safety and wellbeing of our learners is our top priority. We are cooperating fully with the police investigation and have increased the presence of safeguarding staff across the campus.”

Witnesses reported seeing several police vehicles and ambulances arrive within minutes of the attack, describing the scene as tense but well-coordinated. One student said classes were temporarily suspended in nearby buildings while officers secured the area. Others expressed shock that such an incident could occur within what they described as a “peaceful and close-knit” student community.

Local authorities have urged anyone with information or footage related to the event to come forward to assist with inquiries. Officers are also reviewing CCTV from surrounding streets to establish the sequence of events leading up to the assault.

As the investigation continues, police are maintaining an increased presence around the college to reassure students and staff. The victim remains in stable condition in hospital. The case has prompted renewed discussion about campus safety and mental health awareness, with education officials emphasizing the importance of vigilance and early intervention in preventing violence in academic settings.
