Man Arrested in Kuala Lumpur After Posing as Security Guard and Forcing Woman Into Indecent Act

Malaysian police have arrested a man accused of posing as a security guard to rob a young couple in a Kuala Lumpur car park before forcing a woman to perform what authorities described as an indecent act. The case has sparked public concern over personal safety and the misuse of uniforms to gain trust in urban areas.

According to police, the incident took place late Tuesday night in the Ayer Panas area of Setapak, a residential district in the capital. A 19 year old woman and her boyfriend were sitting in their parked car, eating burgers and recording a mukbang style video, when they were approached by a man claiming to be a security guard. The suspect allegedly told the couple that they were violating parking or security rules and demanded that they cooperate.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail said a report was lodged on Wednesday, prompting an investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest. He said the man is believed to have used his fake security role to intimidate the couple before robbing them of cash and personal belongings.

Police allege that after the robbery, the suspect forced the woman to perform an indecent act while threatening both victims. The boyfriend was reportedly unable to intervene due to fear and intimidation. Authorities did not disclose further details of the act, citing the sensitivity of the case and the need to protect the victim’s privacy.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the report was filed and is now being held for questioning. Police said preliminary checks indicate the man is not employed by any licensed security company. Investigators are examining whether he may be linked to similar incidents in the area or elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur.

Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim said the case is being investigated under several sections of Malaysia’s penal code, including offences related to robbery, impersonation and sexual assault. If convicted, the suspect could face a lengthy prison sentence and corporal punishment. He added that police are taking the allegations seriously and are providing support to the victim.

The incident has raised alarm among residents, particularly over the ease with which someone can impersonate a security guard. In many Malaysian cities, private security personnel are a common sight in residential areas, car parks and commercial buildings, which can make it easier for criminals to exploit public trust.

Police urged the public to remain vigilant and to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a security officer. Officials advised people to look for proper identification cards, uniforms with company logos and marked vehicles, and to contact authorities immediately if they feel threatened or suspicious.

Women’s rights advocates have also highlighted the case as a reminder of the risks faced by young people in public spaces, especially at night. They called for stronger public awareness campaigns and faster responses to reports of sexual violence.

As investigations continue, police said they are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and gathering forensic evidence. Authorities encouraged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward, stressing that cooperation from the public is essential to preventing similar crimes.
