Kevin Spacey Faces UK Civil Lawsuits Over Alleged Sexual Assaults Spanning Decades

Oscar winning actor Kevin Spacey is facing three civil lawsuits in the United Kingdom alleging sexual assaults that date back more than two decades, with claimants seeking to introduce additional historical accusations at trial later this year.
The cases are being heard at the High Court in London, where three British men have brought civil claims against the 66 year old actor. They allege that Spacey sexually assaulted them between 2000 and 2013. Two of the claimants previously gave evidence during Spacey’s 2023 criminal trial in London, in which he was acquitted of all charges.
At a recent hearing, lawyers representing the three men asked the court for permission to rely on testimony from seven additional individuals who also allege sexual misconduct by the actor. One of the additional accounts dates back to the late 1970s, while others relate to the 1990s and 2000s.
The claimants argue that these further allegations demonstrate a pattern of behaviour and should be considered by the court when assessing the credibility of the civil claims. Their legal team contends that the accounts show what they describe as a consistent course of conduct involving younger men, sometimes allegedly linked to Spacey’s professional influence within the entertainment industry.
Spacey has consistently denied any sexual misconduct. His lawyers told the court that the additional allegations are disputed and do not establish any relevant pattern connected to the three civil claims. They argue that introducing such evidence would be prejudicial and of limited legal value in determining the specific cases before the court.
A judge is expected to decide at a later date whether the seven additional accounts can be admitted as evidence at the civil trial, which is scheduled for November.
One of the three claimants had also brought a case against London’s Old Vic theatre, where Spacey served as artistic director from 2003. That claim has now been settled between the theatre and the claimant. The Old Vic confirmed that the settlement was reached without any admission of liability and cited the financial and personal costs of continued litigation as a factor in resolving the matter. The claimant’s case against Spacey individually remains ongoing.
Spacey, once one of Hollywood’s most prominent actors, won Academy Awards for his performances in American Beauty and The Usual Suspects. His career faced significant disruption after allegations of sexual misconduct first emerged publicly in 2017. He was subsequently removed from the television series House of Cards and replaced in the film All the Money in the World.
In the United States, a civil lawsuit against Spacey was dismissed by a jury in 2022. The following year, he stood trial in London on multiple criminal charges and was found not guilty on all counts.
The High Court proceedings now represent the latest legal challenge for the actor as the civil claims continue to move through the UK judicial system.
