“I start my day around 8:00 AM,” says Lily Thompson, a veteran of the Rockettes. “It’s a mix of rehearsals, prep work, and getting ready for the evening performance. While it’s busy, there’s something magical about the air in the city during this time of year. Christmas lights are everywhere, and even though we’re working non-stop, it’s hard not to feel the holiday spirit.”

Rehearsals usually start early in the day, and for Rockettes, staying physically fit is just as important as learning the choreography. The show’s trademark routines, especially the famous “12 Days of Christmas” number, require both mental focus and physical precision, demanding years of training. But Lily insists the best part is connecting with the audience.

After performances, Lily says she enjoys the quiet moments spent with fellow Rockettes. “We’re like a family. After each show, we gather backstage and share stories of the audience’s reactions or funny moments during the performance. It’s not just a job, it’s a tradition.”

During her days off, Lily loves visiting some of New York’s classic holiday spots. “I try to make time to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, and of course, I have to take a stroll through Central Park to catch the holiday vibes,” she adds. For her, the city’s energy and the simple joys of the season make it all worthwhile.
