Former Pop Singer Faces Rape Allegations in London Trial

A former pop singer who once performed with Spandau Ballet has appeared before a London court accused of serious sexual offences, with jurors hearing disturbing details about alleged conversations and conduct. Ross Davidson, 37, also known by the stage name Ross Wild, is accused of raping a woman at a property in London in March 2015, a charge he denies. The complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told the court she had met Davidson through a dating app and had consensual sexual encounters with him on earlier occasions. She alleged that on the night in question she woke up to find him having sex with her without consent, leaving her shocked and confused. The court heard that prior to the alleged incident, there had been discussions of sexual fantasies that made her uncomfortable, which she said she did not agree to take part in.

The jury was told that the woman claimed Davidson spoke about wanting sex with someone who was still and unresponsive, comparing it to a mannequin. She told the court she initially misunderstood his comments, believing he was referring to an attractive person rather than someone appearing lifeless. According to her evidence, she never consented to acting out such fantasies and said Davidson did not seek her agreement before attempting to introduce elements she found distressing. She also alleged that at one point he placed a collar and wrist restraints on her without permission, leaving her in a state of shock. Although she said the items were removed after she asked, the experience left her confused and frightened. Davidson’s defence has argued that these conversations were about consensual sexual role play and not about real lack of consent, a claim the complainant strongly disputes.

In addition to the London allegation, Davidson is also standing trial over accusations involving a second woman in Thailand in 2019. Jurors heard that he is accused of attempting to rape and sexually assault the woman, including allegedly filming himself touching her without consent. He denies those charges as well. However, the court was informed that he previously pleaded guilty to a separate charge of voyeurism relating to the same woman later that year. Prosecutors say the pattern of behaviour alleged across both cases is relevant to the jury’s consideration, while the defence maintains that the accusations are unrelated and that Davidson has consistently denied wrongdoing. The trial has drawn attention due to Davidson’s past public profile in music and theatre, including appearances on major stages in London’s West End.

Davidson became known to wider audiences after performing with Spandau Ballet in 2018 and later starring in the Queen themed musical We Will Rock You. The court heard that despite his career in entertainment, the case before the jury is focused solely on the allegations made by the two women and the evidence presented. Jurors have been reminded to consider each charge separately and to base their verdicts only on the facts heard in court. The trial at Wood Green Crown Court is ongoing, with further evidence and cross examination expected before the case is handed to the jury for deliberation.
