Bondi Gunmen Allegedly Planned Attack for Months, Court Documents Reveal

New court documents suggest that the suspects behind the deadly Bondi Beach attack meticulously prepared for the assault over several months, police allege.
The attack, which took place on 14 December during a Hanukkah celebration, left 15 people dead and dozens more injured. Investigators say the gunmen also attempted to use explosives, including what has been described as a “tennis ball bomb,” though these devices failed to detonate.
Authorities allege the pair conducted firearms practice in the weeks leading up to the incident and visited Bondi Beach two days before the shooting to carry out reconnaissance. Surveillance and evidence recovered from a mobile device reportedly show one suspect receiving firearms training from his father.
Naveed Akram, 24, has been charged with 59 offences, including 15 counts of murder and one of terrorism. His father, Sajid Akram, was shot dead by police at the scene.
Police and legal experts say the planning and preparation detailed in the documents indicate a high level of premeditation. Security officials continue to investigate whether the suspects had connections to broader networks or acted independently.
The case has sent shockwaves across Australia, raising concerns about public safety at community events and the threat posed by lone or small-group attackers. Authorities have called for vigilance and community cooperation while the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
