London Set to See Warmer Weather This Weekend as Temperatures Rise

London residents can expect a notable shift in the weather this weekend as temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid teens, bringing a welcome break from recent rain and unsettled conditions. The Met Office predicts that the capital will see daytime highs of around 14 to 15 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

Earlier in the week, conditions have been dominated by spells of heavy rain and wintry showers driven by a weather system named Storm Pedro. A yellow weather warning is in place for parts of southern England and Wales, with rainfall totals widely expected to reach between 10 and 20 millimetres. Coastal and elevated areas could see even higher amounts, increasing the risk of flooding and travel disruption.

In London itself, Thursday is likely to start with rain and sleet before conditions improve later in the day. Temperatures are expected to remain around 6 degrees Celsius during the day as cloud cover gradually clears. Winds will be lighter compared with earlier in the week, though showers may persist.

Friday’s forecast suggests cloudier skies with occasional rain and stronger winds, but conditions will be noticeably milder than those seen earlier in the week. The increase in temperature marks a shift from the colder weather that followed Storm Pedro’s impact across the UK.

Northern and western regions have also seen wintery conditions this week, including snow in parts of the West Midlands and Wales. A separate yellow warning covering snow and strong winds remains in place, and officials have warned that some travel services could be disrupted, with possible flight cancellations and difficult road conditions.

Across Northern Ireland, rainfall and hill snow accompanied by gusts of up to 50 to 55 miles per hour have been forecast, with warnings active into the evening. Despite these disruptive conditions, forecasters expect a gradual improvement in weather patterns as the week progresses.

Senior meteorologists at the Met Office have said that the unsettled start to the week will give way to a warmer and more settled spell by the weekend. Craig Snell, a senior Met Office forecaster, explained that Thursday will see the winds easing and a general improvement in conditions, setting the scene for higher temperatures over the weekend.

The milder conditions expected in London later this week will be accompanied by some wind and occasional rain, but the overall trend is towards more comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities compared with the chilly and wet weather earlier in the week. Forecasters advise Londoners to enjoy the milder spell while also remaining aware of ongoing weather warnings in other parts of the UK.
