London Police Officer Given Written Warning Over ‘Belittling’ Conduct Toward Public

A police officer from the City of London Police has received a formal written warning after a misconduct panel found her behaviour toward members of the public to be inappropriate and unprofessional. Acting Sergeant Aimee Tuppen-Griffiths was criticised for making comments described as rude and belittling during two separate incidents. The findings come as part of a broader push within UK policing to reinforce standards of professionalism and rebuild public trust following scrutiny of officer conduct in recent years.
The misconduct hearing examined two separate encounters involving the officer, including a traffic stop in which a man was pulled over and later arrested. According to the panel’s findings, her manner during the interaction was considered abrupt and unnecessarily forceful. Concerns were also raised about her communication style and decision making during the arrest process. In a separate incident, the officer was found to have treated a member of the public poorly after the individual attempted to de escalate a situation, further contributing to the panel’s conclusion that her behaviour fell below expected standards.
Investigators reviewed evidence related to allegations of excessive force, lack of proper grounds for certain actions and inappropriate conduct during public interactions. While claims of racial discrimination were not upheld, the panel concluded that the officer’s approach lacked respect and professionalism. Chief Superintendent Sanjay Andersen, who oversees professionalism and trust within the department, stated that disrespectful behaviour toward the public is unacceptable and undermines confidence in law enforcement. The warning issued to the officer serves as a formal disciplinary measure and a reminder of those expectations.
