No, Your Favourite Influencer Doesn’t Own a Dozen Dachshunds It’s Just AI Taking Over Your Feed
If you have been scrolling through social media lately and felt that something looked a little unusual, you are not alone. Clips showing a dog rescuing a child from a bear, bunnies bouncing on a trampoline, or even a Christmas market set up outside Buckingham Palace have been circulating everywhere. At first glance, these posts might seem real, but they are actually AI-generated and often low quality. Because of this mix of inauthentic visuals and strange scenarios, many people have started calling it AI slop. Both creators and users worry that this content is reducing authenticity online and making it harder for real posts to stand out.
Influencers See a New Opportunity
Despite the concerns, some creators have begun finding creative ways to work with these AI trends instead of fighting them. A new trend involves adding AI generated animals into normal photos. Influencer Zoe Ilana Hill, who is twenty six and has more than eighty two thousand followers, says she found the idea surprisingly charming. She first noticed another creator editing photos with AI pets in a way that looked almost real and instantly wanted to try it herself.
Blending Real Content With AI
Zoe says that at first she viewed AI with hesitation, especially because she feels social media platforms are strongly pushing AI tools into users’ feeds. She has come across plenty of AI slop, which made her wary. But the animal trend felt different. She knew people online react strongly to unexpected or cute visuals and believed a convincing AI deer would catch attention. The idea of holding a deer felt magical and seasonal, and she knew that most people would rarely get that chance in real life.
Viral Success With AI Animals
Her instinct was correct. The post featuring the AI generated deer took off, earning more than twenty thousand likes along with comments like “this trend is adorable” and “no stop this is the cutest thing ever”. Zoe says she is always transparent when she uses AI and makes sure to use the Instagram tag that marks the image as AI created. She believes honesty is essential because people should not be misled into thinking a moment actually happened.
When AI Isn’t Declared, Confusion Spreads
Not every influencer is doing the same. Some creators post AI images without any disclosure, leading to confusion among followers. One German influencer with nine hundred thousand followers shared a picture surrounded by AI generated dalmatians with the caption, “just me, living my dream”. Many followers questioned whether the photo was real, with one asking if it was AI because similar posts had appeared several times that day. Another user expressed concern for the animals, pointing out that many real dogs in shelters need homes more than digital designs need admiration.
A Changing Online Experience
The rise of AI slop has sparked a wider conversation about what social media is becoming. For some, the constant appearance of AI-generated content makes feeds feel less genuine and more chaotic. For others like Zoe, it represents a new tool that can be used creatively, as long as it is done with transparency. The biggest challenge now is finding a balance between playful experimentation and preserving the authenticity that users still value.
